Modern diesel engine configurations rely on High-Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) architectures to balance emission requirements and fuel efficiency. Unlike older mechanical injection systems, HPCR keeps fuel pressure independent of engine speeds. It maintains pressure in a shared rail, allowing electronic controllers to regulate injection timing, volume, and spray patterns.
Crucial to this system are components like solenoid valves, piezoceramic actuators, control units, and fuel rail sensors. Working under pressures from 1,800 to over 2,500 bar requires high-precision manufacturing. Micro-machined orifices must withstand high heat and wear while keeping tolerances under one micron. Small deviations can cause fuel imbalance, rough idling, increased smoke, or engine failure.
